Samuel P. “Sam” “Sammy Alberts” Ciafardone, Sr., 88, of Mingo Junction, OH, passed away Monday December 21, 2020 at Brightwood Nursing Home in Follansbee, WV.
He was born June 17, 1932 in Mingo Junction, OH, a son of the late John “Springy” and Sue (Marcinko) Ciafardone. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth A. (Midcap) Ciafardone; and a brother, John “Noony” Ciafardone.
Sam served his country in the U.S. Coast Guard during the Korean War. He worked at Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel Corp. on the river dock barges until his retirement in the mid 70’s. Sammy Alberts was an area musician playing the accordion throughout the valley for many years. He played for many years at the Wheeling Italian Festival.
Surviving are two sons, David (Cindy) Ciafardone of Rayland, OH and Samuel P. Ciafardone, Jr. of Salisbury, MD; a daughter, Sonia (Pat) Ciafardone McCombs of New Cumberland, WV; a brother, Phillip (Linda) Ciafardone of Brilliant, OH; twin sisters, Lorraine Golic of Mingo Junction, OH and Loretta Ciafardone of Myrtle Beach, SC; four grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren.
