Mark Braden Millard Sr. “Big Papa” passed away Wednesday, March 24, 2021 at St. Mary’s Health Center in Jefferson City, Missouri, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on March 27, 1953 in Wheeling, West Virginia, a son of William “Bill” Fredwin Millard and June Ellen Kemp.

Mark graduated from Brilliant High School in Brilliant Ohio. After high school he worked in the carpet industry laying carpet for Fannin Floor Company in Miamisburg, Ohio from 1971 to 1973. He worked at Weirton Steel in Weirton, West Virginia, as a tin mill plater operator on the #2 line, from 1973 until his retirement in 2003. Shortly after retirement, he moved to Missouri and helped his brother, Reid, at Millard Family Chapels and Busch’s Florist. He owned the Lomo Club in Lohman Missouri for a year. He enjoyed booking the bands and socializing with everyone that came to dance. He also had a brief stretch as a bartender at Steve’s Family Style Restaurant before his true retirement.

Mark was a member of the Brilliant Lions Club where he worked his way up to president and then to District Zone Chairman. He was a volunteer firefighter with the Brilliant Volunteer Fire Department, served as an EMT on the Brilliant E-Squad. While in Missouri he joined the Jefferson City Evening Lions Club. He loved his Harley-Davidson motorcycles, was a proud H.O.G. member and put more than 250,000 miles on his last bike. He would go from Missouri to New York City to Florida, picking up his friends as they made their journey towards Sturgis. He enjoyed watching his kids and grandkids grow up and attending as many events as he could. You could always hear “Big Papa” on his cell keeping in touch with his friends. Additionally, like many that worked in the steel mills in the Ohio Valley, he was a faithful Steelers fan.

He is survived by his son, Mark Millard Jr. and wife Jana of Jefferson City, his daughter, Tracy Chilton and husband, Shawn of Centertown, Missouri; five grandchildren: Collin Chilton, Braden Millard, Alex Millard, Zoe Chilton and Cohen Chilton; two brothers: Barton Millard and Reid Millard of Jefferson City; two sisters: Diantha Grabinski (Chester) of Centertown, MO and Shelly Davis (Mike) of Jefferson City, MO; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Gary Wehr and Curtis Wehr and one sister, Mary Jane Wehr.
